Glossary

This page is thought to be a place for the definition of the terms describing fundamentals concept of the platform.

API: Application Programming Interface - a set of functions that can be performed on a system by a computer program. The platform APIs are web based which means that the functions are accessed using the web
Application Provider: a person or organisation that creates an application that makes use of the platform
Contentbox: the content portion of a Platform store
Data Provider: a person or organisation that contributes data to the platform
Ground RDF Graph: A Ground RDF Graph is a graph which does not contain any blank nodes.
Metabox: the metadata portion of a Platform store
Platform: an instance of the Talis Platform which can hold an arbitrary number of Stores
Tenant: a person or organisation that runs an instance of a platform application
User: a person or organisation that uses an instance of a platform application
Resource: A subject of conversation. A node in an RDF-raph.
SaaS: Software as a Service
Silkworm Directory: a community-maintained repository for metadata about collections, services and the organisations that maintain them
Store: a self-contained repository for metadata and content
Symphony: a centrally provided service that enables serendipitous discovery and presentation of content related according to arbitrary metadata
